Launched – September 19, 1944

Commissioned – March 29, 1945

USS Macabi was used mostly for rescue of U.S. pilots during her first patrol. The war ended two days into her second patrol.  Macabi was decommissioned May 16, 1946 and transferred to Argentina on May 23, 1960 where she was renamed Santiago del Estero (S 12).
