USS Icefish made five war patrols earning four Battle Stars and the Asiatic-Pacific Area Service Medal. She sank two ships for a total of 14,000 tons. While Icefish was still conducting trials in Manitowoc, Wisconsin-born actor Spencer Tracy came to Manitowoc to promote war bonds and see the submarine program.While in town he toured the shipyard and Icefish.
On February 21, 1953, Icefish was transferred to the Netherlands Navy and renamed Walrus (S 802).
