USS Guitarro made four war patrols during World War II, earning four Battle Stars and the Navy Unit Commendation. She sank eight ships for a total of 23,132 tons. She was decommissioned in 1945 and on August 7, 1954 Guitarro was transferred to Turkey where she was named Preveze (S 340).
