Our Mission
The Wisconsin Maritime Museum engages and educates the public about the maritime history of Wisconsin and the Great Lakes, including Wisconsin's World War II submarines and USS COBIA, by collecting and preserving artifacts and archival materials, creating interactive exhibits, developing and implementing educational programs, and promoting research.
 
Museum Hours

Open 7 days a week year ’round!

The Museum is closed New Year's Day, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.  It is also closed for the Museum's annual fundraising event, Commodore's Ball, on Saturday, October 2, 2010.

Museum Hours     

  • Summer: 9 a.m.–6 p.m.
    • Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend
  • Winter: 9 a.m.–5 p.m.
    • Labor Day weekend through Memorial Day weekend

Suggested Touring Time

Allow three to four hours to fully explore the Musuem and tour USS COBIA.

 
Submarine Tours

Tours of the submarine are offered seven days a week, weather permitting, throughout the year. Tour times are approximate and subject to change.

Summer (Memorial Day - Labor Day)

  • Daily: Approximately 9:30 - 4:30
  • Tours are available throughout the day as needed

Spring - Fall (March - Memorial Day, Labor Day - October)

  • Sunday - Friday: 10:00 - 3:00
  • Saturday: 10:00 - 4:00 

Winter (November - February)

  • Sunday: 1 p.m. only.
  • Monday - Thursday: 11:30 a.m.  and 1:00 p.m.
  • Friday and Saturday:  11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

 

Note: Group tours are available anytime with an advance reservation.

 
Admission Rates
  • Effective January 1, 2004

Rates include access to both the Museum and USS COBIA submarine:

  • $12 – Adult
  • $10 – Child (age 6–15)
  • Free (age 5 and under)
The Museum offers discounted admission rates to families, senior citizens, AAA members, World War II submarine veterans, and veteran service persons from any branch of the United States military. Active military members receive free admission with current ID card.
  • 15% family discount (families with children ages 6–15)
  • 10% senior citizen discount (age 60 and above))
  • 10% AAA member discount
  • 10% veteran and service personnel discount

 

Prearranged Group Tour Rates

Reduced rates are available for groups of 10 or more. Please reserve your group tour four weeks in advance. Please see Pre-Visit Information for more on group tours or to download a brochure.  To schedule your tour, contact the Museum at 920-684-0218.

Group Tour Rate:

  • $10 – Adult
  • $5 – Child (age 6–15)

School Groups:

  • $5 – Student
  • $7 – Chaperone
  • Free – Teacher

Pre-school Groups:

  • Free – Child (age 5 and under)
  • $2 – Submarine tour or educational program

 Scouts:

  • $5 -- Scout
  • $7 -- Parent Chaperone
  • Free -- Leader

 

USS COBIA Overnight Education Program

Overnight participants receive a guided tour and overnight accommodation on board the World War II submarine USS COBIA. In addition to undertaking various educational activities, participants enjoy special supervised access to some non-public areas of the submarine and admission to the Museum. Driving Directions

The Museum is located on Maritime Drive in downtown Manitowoc, Wisconsin. We are in a large white building, on the bank of the Manitowoc River -- look for the submarine!

From Milwaukee:
Follow I-43 North to Exit 149/Hwy 151. Turn right (east) and follow the Hwy 151 signs to 8th Street (approximately 5 miles). Turn left (north) and cross the 8th Street bridge. Turn right (east) onto Maritime Drive; the Museum will be on your right.

OR…Follow I-43 North to Exit 152/Hwy 10 East. Turn right (east) and continue along Hwy 10, which becomes Waldo Blvd., to Lake Michigan (approximately 3 miles). Turn right on Maritime Drive. Follow Maritime Drive approximately one mile; the Museum will be on your left.

 

From Green Bay:
Follow I-43 South to Exit 152/Hwy 10 East. Turn left (east) and continue along Hwy 10, which becomes Waldo Blvd., to Lake Michigan (approximately 3 miles). Turn right on Maritime Drive. Follow Maritime Drive approximately one mile; the Museum will be on your left.

 

From Appleton:
Hwy 10 to I-43. Go south on I-43 to Exit 152, Hwy 10 east. Turn left off the exit ramp and continue east on Hwy 10 (also called Waldo Blvd. ) to Lake Michigan (approx. 3 miles). Turn right onto Maritime Drive and follow for 1 mile.

 

From Fond du Lac:
Follow Hwy151 to 8th Street (approximately 5 miles). Turn left (north) and cross the 8th Street bridge. Turn right (east) onto Maritime Drive; the Museum will be on your right.

 

For pilots arriving at the Manitowoc County Airport:

Lakeshore Aviation provides a courtesty car on a first-come, first-served basis or with reservation, for a nominal fee.  If a car is unavailable a cab can be arranged.

Start out going south on Freedom Way to Menasha Avenue.  Turn left onto Menasha Avenue and follow it approximately one mile to Hwy 10/Waldo Boulevard. Turn left onto Waldo and follow it to Lake Michigan.  Turn right onto Maritime Drive.  Follow Maritime Drive approximately 1 mile; the Museum will be on your left.
